A family doctor who still believes in listening.

I’m Dr. Shane Halpe — a family medicine specialist and lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, with a passion for patient-centered care and medical education. I hold an MRCGP (International), an MD in Family Medicine from the University of Colombo, and I’m registered with both the Sri Lanka Medical Council and the UK’s General Medical Council.

My practice spans primary care, chronic disease management, and community health — with ongoing fieldwork in underserved areas of northern Sri Lanka. I believe family medicine is where the real work of healing happens: not in isolated diagnoses, but in continuity of care, prevention, and the relationships built over time with patients and their families.

These essays are my attempt to bring that human side of healthcare into words. They’re not clinical lectures, but honest reflections on what I see in the clinic and community — the questions patients are afraid to ask, the moments of real connection, and the quiet work of caring for body, mind, and spirit together.

Good medicine begins where the prescription ends — in the listening, the reassurance, and the human presence.
